Title: The twins at St. Clare

Author: Enid Blyton

Publisher: Methuen Publishing

Illustrator: W. Lindsay Cable

When, I first saw the book “The Twins at St. Clare” I just saw two stuck up twins. The reason I read this book is that my school, Mahindra World School has started virtual learning. At every Monday, once in two weeks our library teacher sends us a storybook. One of them was, The twins at St. Clare.

In this novel, Enid Blyton tells us about two twins who used to study in an elite school, Redroofs. Their parents transferred them to St. Clare. Patricia and Isabella O’Sullivan, the twins were not happy with their parent’s idea of transfer.

While most of their friends at their old school, two of them Mary and Frances Waters, are moving to the equally elite Ringmere, the twins' parents are reluctant to send them to an expensive school as they are afraid the twins might become spoilt and snobbish.

When they protested, their parents scolded them. At first, they did not fit in. But after spending time a while at St. Clare they started fitting in. With the help of second chance from their friends, they started fitting in.

Now let me tell you a little brief description about the twins…

Patricia O’Sullivan:

She is brave but equally good at field hockey. With learning lacrosse at St. Clare Pat has become a good player at lacrosse. When the twin’s senior orders them to clean her shoes and put the kettle. Pat was raged with anger. So, she stood up to her. Now she had understood having too much angry can be bad.

Isabella O’Sullivan:

Even though Patricia and Isabella are twins they are completely different in nature. Isabella has always been there to calm Pat down. Without Isabella, Patricia would have a lot of angry more than now. Calming Pat is no easy job. Isabella was very calm. She was equally good at lacrosse and field hockey as much as Patricia.

From my way, I think the central idea of the novel is about two twins and their life at St. Clare. I really liked the beautiful illustrations made by Cable. I admire Enid Blyton’s amazing writing style in all of her books. By the way, the general look of the book is about St. Clare, a good school.

I loved the Midnight feast between the twins and their friends had. When mamazelle had entered the room. She noticed that they had a midnight feast but she did not tell anyone remembering her days of midnight feasts.

Other part that I loved was the circus. The twins and their friends sneaked out of school to look at the circus because the school would not let them because of the broken window and when teachers told them to confess nobody did as nobody did break the window. At the very next day Miss Roberts said that the class could go to the circus because a first-former broke the window and had a cold. So, didn’t know what was happening. When she realised that other students could not go to the circus because of her, she confessed. After knowing that they can go to the circus. They could not go because they got flu staying up in cold and dark night.

After reading this book I realised it's good to try something new and adapt. There is actually nothing that I would like to change about this book. I think the age group might be 8 years and more.
